🎙️ Real Estate Revamp | Featuring Robbie Lafaro (CEO & Founder – Place Purpose Group)
Our special guest on this week's episode of Real Estate Revamp is Robbie Lafaro, CEO and Founder of Place Purpose Group, a rapidly growing real estate business operating across Brisbane.
Robbie's journey into real estate began in an unexpected place. After working at Harvey Norman selling televisions, he was approached by the agent who sold his home and offered an opportunity to join a small, five-person real estate office on minimum wage. With very little formal training and a determination to succeed, Robbie secured his first listing within weeks and quickly discovered his ability to build relationships, win business, and deliver results.
In his first full financial year, Robbie generated over $1 million in Gross Commission Income, achieving Titanium status and completing an incredible 150 property sales within just 18 months. But despite his success as an agent, he soon realised his real passion wasn't selling properties. It was building businesses, developing people, and creating opportunities for others to succeed.
In this episode, Rex and Daniel sit down with Robbie to unpack his extraordinary journey from salesperson to business owner, including purchasing a 50% stake in his first office, stepping away from selling entirely, and committing himself to recruitment, leadership, and business growth.
Robbie shares the challenges of scaling his operation, from filling a small 20-desk office to securing a 1,400-square-metre warehouse in Stafford and navigating the financial pressures of business ownership. He discusses the difficult decisions, long working hours, and lessons in cash flow management that helped shape his approach to leadership.
The conversation also explores Robbie's unique philosophy that real estate principals should treat their agents as their primary clients. He explains why creating the right environment, providing genuine support, and removing unnecessary distractions allows agents to focus on what they do best.
Robbie also discusses expanding into multiple offices, identifying future leaders, and building a management structure that allows the business to operate beyond his personal involvement. He shares why attitude, people skills, and cultural alignment can be more valuable than experience when choosing the right people to lead a growing organisation.
The episode also dives into his decision to join the Place brand, the benefits of centralised administration, marketing, and operational support, and how strategic partnerships and mergers have helped expand the group to ten offices generating approximately $50 million in GCI.
Beyond real estate, Robbie reflects on his relentless approach to opportunity, his recent venture into hospitality, and the philosophy behind his upcoming biography, Don't Think, Just Do.
If you're a real estate professional, principal, business owner, or aspiring entrepreneur, this episode is packed with practical lessons on leadership, recruitment, business growth, taking calculated risks, and building something bigger than yourself.
